Stress. You probably feel the effects of it each and every day. Tense shoulders, headaches and tiredness. But did you know that stress can affect the condition of your skin too? Stress can make your skin that little more sensitive and oily, because stress triggers your body to produce more hormones and this makes your sebaceous glands work overtime. It can also make any existing skin conditions so much worse – psoriasis, acne and eczema.
But there are ways to manage stress and to keep your skin beautiful as well. First of all, learn how to eradicate stress by practicing deep breathing techniques when you feel the first signs of tension. Practice creative visualizations and imagine yourself bathed in a beautiful blue healing light. It can be difficult to hold the image so keep bringing your mind back if it starts to wander. This simple technique promotes inner healing.
When we lead busy lives, we sometimes forget about exercising. Get out regularly for a run or walk or practice yoga in the park, combine this with some deep breathing and some appreciation of your beautiful surroundings. When you relax and learn to appreciate the simple things in life, you will boost your immune system and the negative aspects of stress will eradicate once more.
If you are not getting enough sleep, then practice good sleep hygiene. Don’t watch the Television in bed and indulge your senses by turning your bedroom into a sanctuary, use aromatherapy oils to uplift or relax and go to bed at the same time each night. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Nothing ages skin more than dehydration so learn to love your skin and to look after it, protecting it from the sun and from the extremes of weather.
Problems can arise when stress becomes the norm, you feel jaded and you can look jaded too. So take the bull by the horns and sort out any problems as they occur, don’t let them become deeply rooted. Relaxation may start on the inside but you can project feelings of peace and contentment and it can take years off of you. Reduce stress and you will naturally beautify your skin.
